As part of our new Youth Initiative, NANAIMO YSC has made a commitment to enhancing the experience of our Youth Players by paying close attention to the amount of time that players are in contact with the ball and actually get to "play" the game.  To that end, NYSC has implemented a Curriculum Guide for Volunteer Coaches to use at practice and have proceeded with the implementation of Double Sided Games.  This has championed us as one of the first Club’s in Canada that use this format to guarantee that players are enjoying upwards of 70% play time, as opposed to the 50% that is the usual Canadian Club norm.

As we fully integrate double-sided formats over the next year to our Pony age groups, you will notice certain subtleties that our coaches will facilitate during game time.  Such formats keep us in line with a “player centred” philosophy that strives to keep the development of our young players first.

Below outlines how this format is designed to keep players playing, rather, than spending too much time at this age watching from the bench. You will also note information with regard to what formats of play will be used during the months of December and January. As we allow players in a greater range of age groups to enjoy more play time, we are able to bring the double-sided game indoor and those venues and formats are also noted below. 

 Our U6, U7, & U8 Programs move Indoor for games on December 3, 4, January 7, 14, 21, & 28.  Below outlines the formats and venues.

U9 Players will have an opportunity to play a 5 v 5 double-sided format for 6 weeks in December & January.  This age group and games will continue outdoor for this 6 week period.  Schedules are posted on the website.

U10 Players will also continue their season play outdoor during the same 6 week period.  The U10 age group will continue play as normal during the six week period as facilities cannot at this time accommodate other formats.
